I was a senior in high school during the Northridge quake and I am now 34 years old and I still skip a beat during any earthquake and or when my bed shakes from a truck driving by. The Northridge quake was a 6.7 and it tossed me up in the air and caused an estimated $20 billion in damage.
That quake released the energy equivalent to a 309.5 kiloton bomb going off, the Japan quake at 9.0 released the energy of 476 megaton bomb. Folks I have no idea what that means but we went from kilotons to megatons, I know that is big.
The point is this. Have your, water, your food, your extra cash and port-a-potty ready but get your mind ready as well. The psychological nature of seeing destruction on a mass scale is huge. People will be dazed, confused and scared. You have to be ready for the ground to shake because here in California we are always moving toward the next big quake and not away.
